With its U.S. museum debut at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, HUMAN ONE entered a chapter defined by breakdown, mutation, and instability. Here the explorer's body appears increasingly overtaken by machinery, as if the figure itself is being rewritten in real time through processes of decay and technological replacement.
This chapter also introduced the idea of the “chapter ceremony,” in which viewers gathered to witness the transition from one phase of the work to the next, reinforcing that transformation is central to the sculpture's meaning.
